ABOUT THE MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK STAMP
The Mount Rainier National Park Stamp is being issued as one of 16 Forever® stamps in the National Parks Forever stamp pane. These Forever® stamps will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail® one-ounce rate.
Ascending to 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier stands as an icon in the Washington landscape.  An active volcano, Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous United States, spawning six major rivers.  Subalpine wildflower meadows ring the icy volcano while ancient forest cloaks Mount Rainer’s lower slopes.  Wildlife abound in the park’s ecosystem.
The Mount Rainier stamp image is the creation of Matt Dieterich, who worked in the park last year as an intern.  To create the star trails image, he took 200 photos in a two-hour window between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. When the photos are contained into one image the stars create a circular pattern around the North Star, which is just out of view at the top of the image. The pink aurora spread throughout the background sky.
